Vision

Facing with the rise of pro-Communist medias and content farms, the online media in Hong Kong is filled up with fake news, fake information and fake opinions, which lead to Obscurantism. The only solution is education which aims to improve the people’s general understandings.

As a localist Anglo-Hanyu bilingual media, Kowloon Daily 九龍媒體 aims to bring the theories from the academy to the society so as to improve Hong Kongese’s understanding in humanities and restore their cultural consciousness. Only by rebuilding the Hong Kong identity and promoting Hong Kong culture according to A Discourse on Hong Kong Culture can the world recognise the subjectivity of Hong Kong Culture.

Kowloon is not only a place in Hong Kong. It’s also the short form of our slogan: 9 duk1 haam4 si6 lung4 zoeng1 fung6 zi1 (virtuous working, elegant writing). Kowloon locates in the centre of Hong Kong with a long history of transcultural dialogue between Waa Has and British cultures. The rural villages and the public estates have been building up an independent social network where Hong Kong culture develops. However, after the handover, having been being colonised by the Chinese Communist (with the cases of New immigration, pseudo-political reform, the land ceding to China in the West Kowloon high speed rail station and the expiry of the basic law in 2047), Hong Kong has changed a lot. We have little time left. We have to preserve the remaining values of Hong Kong Culture and wait for the opportunity of rebirth. Succeeding and developing Hong Kong culture is our mission.

9 duk1 haam4 si6 lung4 zoeng1 fung6 zi1 (virtuous working, elegant writing) is our slogan. Counsels of Gao-yao of the 尚書 The Book of Documents. Virtues refers to nine virtues: “Affability combined with dignity; mildness combined with firmness; bluntness combined with respectfulness; aptness for government combined with reverent caution; docility combined with boldness; straightforwardness combined with gentleness; an easy negligence combined with discrimination; boldness combined with sincerity; and valour combined with righteousness.” A New Account of the Tales of the World which indicates the elegant appearance of dragon and phoenix. Therefore, 九德咸事 represents our moral principles while 龍章鳳姿 shows our writing quality requirements. Our goals include:

Firstly, improve the understanding of international current affairs and humanities of the Han-yu readers in Hong Kong.

Secondly, arise the oversea English readers’ interests in East Asian and Hong Kong cultures and current affairs. The western readers, particularly the British readers, are generally ignorant of the realities of Hong Kong, Taiwan, China or even the entire Asia. In order to enhance the understanding in Hong Kong cultures, travelling, society, economy and politics of the oversea English readers (particularly those from Britain, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), in long run we will develop the Han-yu to English new translation summary writing services and inviting English columnists to write articles on Hong Kong.

Thirdly, provide Christianity news and information to Hong Kong han-yu readers so as to enhance their understanding of Christian faith. The mainline traditional media and online media do not focus on the Christian news while many Christian medias have strong bias and poor writing. As a theologian and a philosopher, the Chief Editor aims to develop the Christian news and commentaries so as to fill up the blank area of the Hong Kong online media.
